Welcome to all about Japanese Stamps!
My name is Werner and I want to tell you a little bit about my Japanese Stamps site.
I started collecting stamps when I was around 10 years old. Why did I do it? Honestly, everyone else in my age group around that time seemed to do it.
Continuing for around 5 years, I collected any kind of stamp without having a plan or without focusing on a specific country. It was just fun and interesting to get my hands on colorful and exotic looking stamps from all over the world.
By the time I turned 15, collecting stamps was 'uncool' and I gradually spent less and less time on my little hobby until I stopped collecting completely.
After high-school came college followed by many years of donning a suit and riding the corporate 'wheel of fortune.' By now, I had totally forgotten about stamps and my teenage collection was rotting away in a box somewhere in my parents attic.
Fast forward to 2012...
For the last 15 years I have been living in Japan after having been posted here for work. While frequently accompanying my Japanese wife to the local post office, I started to become interested again in stamps and, especially, in local Japanese stamps.
After purchasing a couple of Japanese stamp sheets for myself, I was surprised by the beauty, quality, and variety of design of Japanese stamps.
Showing them to some of my friends overseas, I realized that there was a real interest in the stamps of Japan. After a while, some of my friends started asking me to mail them Japanese stamps for their collection. Then their friends needed a 'favor.'
Before I knew, I spent my free time shuttling back and forth between my place and the local post office getting Japanese stamps for friends and people I didn't even know.
The idea to set-up a site entirely about Japanese stamps originally came from my wife. After some initial hesitation, I decided to battle the technical aspects of creating a web-site and started working on Japanese Stamps .com.
Although the site is not complete yet and a shopping function won't be available until the end of the year, I have been getting many e-mails from Japanese stamps collectors all over the world asking me when the site will finally go-live.
Needless to say, I have been overwhelmed by the reaction to the Japanese stamps site and hope that I will be able to meet your expectations.
